Steve Martin actually plays the accordion in several scenes
Story
Three strangers, living in the same New York City apartment building and sharing an obsession with true crime, suddenly find themselves involved in a murder. He is indeed a very accomplished and talented musician. The viewer found out in the first episode that CHS lived above Oliver who lived above Mabel, with that elevator scene. BUT the opening shows CHS in an apartment on the 7th floor, Oliver on the 8th, Mabel on the 9th, the reverse order and far below the actual floor of CHS’s apartment in the series. Appeared in Crazy Cartoon Cast by AniMat: The Rat of All My Dreams (2020). Season 1 (9/10) When this series first started, my girlfriend wasn’t particularly interested.

I’m a huge fan of comedy mysteries and I loved Steve Martin when I was younger, but her enthusiasm for both is moderate. But after five minutes I had to stop and make her watch it, because we are New Yorkers and this series nails New York in five minutes. The strange relationships with passersby, the artsy types, the justified paranoia, it was all there and it was hilarious right away. The show is about a trio of murder podcast fanatics who bond over a real murder in their luxury condo. But each is hiding secrets from the other in a wonderful structure of mystery within a mystery. Everyone has secrets, the show says, and digging into them is a fascinating exercise.
The cast is terrific
Martin is a funny guy, Short, who I usually have a soft spot for, is hilarious as a wacky theater director, and Selena Gomez does a great job as a hilariously sarcastic temporary tenant. As far as I know, this show has been a smash hit, my friends (and fellow New Yorkers) certainly love it, so I was shocked to see how many user reviews hate this show, or find it just mediocre, to the point that they insist that all favorable reviews are paid for. This response is inexplicable to me. The show is amazing. When a new episode came out we watched it immediately. It’s just so, so, so, so good.
Season 3 (6/10): What the hell happened?
Ignore the naysayers, it’s a must. Other seasons: Season 2 (8/10): A little weaker than season 1, but still excellent. Season 3 saw Steve Martin play his character like a complete idiot and after 2 great seasons, Selena Gomez became lackluster, darker and less sarcastically witty. And when the mystery was solved, oh my god, these were the most absurd reasons I could come up with. Sure, there were still some good moments, some good guest stars, some surprisingly enjoyable songs. But OMG.
Probably the best second season after the first
Season 4 (9 stars) Much to my relief, season 4 was a return to form: Martin was no longer an idiot and Gomez’s delightful sarcasm was fully restored. There are some fun celebrity guest stars, especially funny is Eva Longoria playing herself as a truly horrible person, the mystery is solid and keeps you on your toes, the twists are satisfying, and it’s all extremely entertaining.
