Story
Liane, 19, lives with her mother and sister in Fréjus, in the south of France. Consumed by aspirations of beauty and stardom, she auditions for a reality show called «The Island of Miracles.» Agathe Riedinger’s film does not reproduce romantic clichés. It is wonderfully authentic and, like life, unsweetened. Impeccable performances and character development that are hard not to get attached to. An excellent script that consciously, with a maturity rarely seen in debuts, avoids the beaten paths of drama. The director hints at them and then constantly takes us down a different path. The reality of this film is far from the black and white simplifications to which decades of patriarchal narrative have accustomed us. Here, the woman is the protagonist. Beautiful cinema, incredible debut. 10/10.
