This is a stylized Cold War spy craft in a modern setting – and it’s a very pleasant sight
Gary Oldman plays the quintessential grumpy old curmudgeon, an MI5 spy left over from the Cold War (and ostracized at Slough House), still warding off shadows and seeing real threats before anyone else.
Another well-executed show that creates its immediate world with the details of the environment, characters (and tricks) — the indispensable building blocks of good storytelling
If you just came across this show when the 2nd season came out, you should do yourself a favor and watch the 1st season first – it’s a good story that will offer depth of characters and situations that will add to your enjoyment.
Highly recommended – Oldman and Kristin Scott-Thomas are great, as are Jack Lowden and Saskia Reeves
Season 2 seemed to up its game in terms of production design and cinematography—it really paid off and elevated the show above the usual weekly series.
